Today it has been extremely windy and cold. A bit of a surprise considering I was wearing flip flops quiet comfortably just two days ago. Today as I headed out to market, I had on jeans, tennis shoes, a t-shirt, jacket with hood, the hood was covering my head to keep my ears from freezing, plus I had on gloves, and a scarf wrapped around my neck and face. You could only see my eyes. The small part of my face that was exposed burned from the cold. I also was wishing I had a layer on under my jeans because the wind seemed to go right through them.
Why, today would I decide to go to market?! Not the most comfortable shopping experience, but I did not really want to wait another five days or else I wouldn't really eat much this week. Market is when people set up their produce and other goods along the sidewalks and down the street and you buy what you need. Our market days are on 2's and 7's (meaning any date that ends in two or seven). Today was the twevlth...market day.I went out around 6:30 pm and when I got there (about a five minute walk) people were already packing up their stuff or had already gone home. I was a bit surprise because it was early...but I guess they wanted to get out of the cold.
Anyway, determined to buy vegetables in an attempt to eat healthily this week, I decided to go over to Highway Mart. This is a larger grocery store that has a little of everthing but is more expensive than market. Highway Mart does have one small section of an isle that holds American food. You never know what you will find. Well today I found black beans! I was excited about this because I love black beans and they are HARD to find in this country. I was very tempted to put about 10 cans in my basket...but then I would have had to carry all of them home, and that would become quite heavy by the time I got home. I compromised with three but must admit I am tempted to go back tomorrow for more
The story gets even better because months ago Jinger had e-mailed me a recipe for Vegetable Chili that called for blackbeans. I was already planning on making the chili this evening, only with kidney beans instead. I love how God cares about the little details of life. I find it interesting that He gave me the beans on the very day I was making the chili. That is not coinincidence...it is God. I also would have never found the beans if it hadn't been so cold outside. I RARELY go to Highway Mart. Once again...God lead me to the beans.
I did not NEED the beans, but God chose to give them to me to remind me of His love and care. God shows His love by giving us these small pleasures. I don't always stop and acknowlege Him for them, but wanted to tonight. I was considerably blessed and take joy in my Father who loves to give good gifts to His children.
